HISTORY
St. Mary's Catholic Church was founded in 1906 by Divine Word of Fathers.
Fr. Aloysius Heick was the first pastor. The first Mass was celebrated on February 2, 1906 in property rented by the parishioners at 112 Holly Street in Vicksburg. In June of 1906 with a sizeable donation from St. Katherine Drexel and loans, Fr. Heick purchased property on Jackson and Second North Streets. The four one-story houses on this property were converted into a chapel, convent, school and rectory. The present church structure was completed in 1923.
